these days i've been spending a good amount of my time exploring the vintage stores and les puces (fleamarkets) de paris. for me, even in the states, the search was always the best part of finding great treasures. being an avid tj maxx shopper (if you know me, you know this is the understatement of the century). i would rather dig through 12 stores searching for the perfect deal than go to a department store and pay full price. since being in paris i've gotten to know a few vintage store owners and have spent many a morning digging through the markets for some good finds. clothing with character and a good story is far more facinating. especially in les puces, the experience is as important as the find. speaking with the vendors, hearing about where they got the items, the stories they have to tell, the history of the pieces…all this while playing poker, cracking jokes and drinking tea. oh la la...
here are some of my recent finds and some randoms…

ok…to fur or not to fur? i am an animal lover. i respect animals and i would never want to hurt one…i see the complete hypocrisy in this notion…however, i found this beautiful vintage wolf coat this morning in the puce for 5.. yes 5 euros. i then sat in the metro after buying this for 45 minutes really unsure if i would be able to keep it because it IS very sad and i feel like i'm wearing my australian sheperd mika (now in puppy heaven) as a jacket. in any case, the jacket is stunning and i've been wanting a for (or fake fur) jacket to play in for a while now. next to the jacket are a pair of vintage miu miu leather slingbacks i found a few weeks back. |

this piece is from my grandfather. when he went to ireland right after world war II he brought back two handknit sweaters. they are extremely heavy and beautifully made. he gave me this one for christmas, because "i brought it all the way back from ireland, which wasn't easy in those days, and your grandmother never wore it. can you believe that? i know you will appreciate it." |
